3 things public Relations pros should be doing everyday

No one will ever understand what it takes to be apart of the public relations world. The long hours, endless surprises and digging deeper and deeper into our creative mind each day to find a better way to react to a situation than we did yesterday.

While most people think all we do is scroll through social media, they don’t realize that we are witches and wizards when it comes to multitasking and getting the job done in the blink of an eye.

As our crazy days add up, we all fall into our own special routine that helps us make it home at night with a sane mind. While every PR go-getter has their own mojo, there are still three task that everyone in PR should be doing everyday.

So what if people think we always have our heads in our phones, it’s basically our job. It is important that PR specialist keep up with the top social media sites as a viewer and a publisher. We are in the technology age and social media is where you will reach the majority of your clients.

It’s also a great way to keep up with current events as they happen and hashtags are a quick and easy way to see if your clients are being talked about.

Students don’t choose a career in PR if they want to be doing the same task day in and day out. Students choose PR because they like the fast paced and unpredictable work environment.

That being said, there should always be some type of to-do list in the making at all times. Reporters are constantly calling, meetings are always taking place and new projects are constantly being tossed into your lap.

Some say these list are like promise rings, once you have one there is no hope for success. I say otherwise, here is a great post about how to create a successful to-do list.

Write, Writing and Write More

I know that when I started my trek down to PRville, I never dreamed that I would have to do a lot of writing. Well, the joke was on me. Writing is my achellis heel, and when I started out I was terrible.

Two years down the road after countless press releases, research papers, blogs and anything else that involves forming words into a sentence, I see a MASSIVE improvement. Every day I am performing some type of writing. The only way to become good at this important PR trait is to practice, practice, practice.
